What follows is a list of references in order of appearance with a brief description of content:
Background: The idea of MT-PYRAMID was born in the course of the Founder's research on children's play which formed the basis of her PhD. The thesis is available through the Ethos database:
Takhvar, M. (1985). A longitudinal, observational study of children's play. (Doctoral Thesis, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, England). Retrieved from EThOS, reference number: uk.bl.ethos.268484.
The key finding can be summarised as the fact that the OVERT behaviour of the children as observed by others is different from and interpreted differently by the actors themselves which constitutes their COVERT behaviour. This non-correspondence of the overt and covert (observed and hidden) has been supported by other experiences in the Founders life.

The term 'epigenesis' was originally coined by the Geneticist and Embryologist Waddington and was used to denote the fact that in the process of differentiation by which all multicellular organisms develop, the genes expressed in a particular cell and their mode of expression is influenced and ultimately determined by the environment surrounding the cell in question. The term has been used more recently in a narrower sense to denote effects of the environment which influence gene expression more widely and are transmitted to subsequent offspring. See:
Ref2: This site examines an image which Waddington used to illustrate the impact of genes and environment on development. In his sense, the sense in which it appears here, all development is epigenetic and hence it is meaningless to try to talk about nature and nurture as separate factors in individual development. https://embryo.asu.edu/pages/epigenetic-landscape
